We are only 7 months into 2024, but man oh man, this year seems to really keeping us on our toes, and putting a lot into perspective.
I am almost 12 weeks out from my labral augmentation surgery on my left hip. Recovery is going better than expected, and my hip is feeling so much better and way more stable. I am so grateful that the surgery turned out successful!
During the recovery process, my right hip started feeling a bit off. I couldn't tell if it was because my right leg took most the weight for 6 weeks while on crutches, or if it was another labrum tear. I spoke to my surgeon and we decided to complete an MRI on my right hip to make check it out. I received the results earlier this week, and unfortunately, my labrum on my right side is torn as well...The doctor put in a referral for surgery, so I should know the date in the next two weeks.
I was pretty upset when I received this information, then something else happened in my family that put my injury into perspective. My mom was admitted into the hospital at the beginning of this week, and was moved to the ICU for a few days so they could closely monitor her breathing and oxygen levels. She has been having a difficult time catching her breath recently, and had horrible coughing fits that exhausted her. After countless tests, being in the hospital for almost a week, they still don't have a definitive answer as to what is causing her symptoms. They believe it could be something called Chronic Eosinophillic Pneumonia.
Seeing my mom in the hospital with so many questions definitely put into perspective how lucky I have been with my health, and that there is a solution to my torn labrum. It really showed me to be grateful for whatever happens in life, because you don't know how quickly that could all change. My mom is thankfully doing way better, she is still in the hospital to monitor her for a few more days before discharging her to start the treatment for CEP. The pulmonologist is confident that the treatment should get her back to normal but it could take a few years.
After this week it is my goal to lean into gratitude and embracing time with those who you love. Life can really change in a blink of an eye. I have a lot to be grateful for so that should be easy to do! I just have to remember that during the hard days that are destined to come up.
